What a free hair-check is
It is a proper look at your hair before you decide what to do. Around 30 minutes, sometimes longer. It costs nothing, and coming in does not book you a service.
We look at the condition your hair is in now, what colour has been on it before, and how your regrowth sits. Then we tell you what is realistically possible.
What happens in the appointment
We listen first. What you want, what you have tried before, and what went wrong last time if something did.
Then we read the hair — its condition, its colour history, the regrowth pattern, and how much previous colour is still sitting in it.
Then we test. We work a small section of your hair through the full process we are proposing, including any lightening steps, so we can see how your hair actually reacts. Reading hair by eye is not the same as watching it behave.
What it is not
It is not a sales appointment. Nobody will steer you towards the most expensive thing we do.
It is not the service itself. If we agree a plan, the work is a separate appointment with the right amount of time set aside — sometimes straight after, if the time is free.
And it is not a yes by default. Sometimes the honest answer is not yet — the hair needs time, or the result you have in mind cannot be reached safely from where your hair is now. We would rather say that before you have paid for anything.
What you leave with
A straight answer, and enough detail to plan around it:
- what is realistically possible with your hair, and what is not
- how many appointments it is likely to take
- what it will cost, before anything is booked
- or a clear no, with the reason, and what would need to change first

Questions before you book
What is a free hair-check?
A free hair-check is a no-cost, no-obligation look at your hair before any service is booked. It takes around 30 minutes, sometimes longer. We look at your hair’s condition, colour history and regrowth, then tell you what is realistically possible.
Do I have to book a service afterwards?
No. You can take the information away and think about it, or decide not to go ahead at all. Nothing is booked at the hair-check unless you want it to be.
Will you tell me if the service is not right for my hair?
Yes, and before you pay for anything. If your hair is not in a state to take what you are asking for, we say so, explain why, and tell you what would need to change first.
How long does the hair-check take?
Around 30 minutes, sometimes longer if your hair has a complicated colour history.
Do you test my hair during the hair-check?
Yes. We work a small section of your hair through the full process we are proposing, including any lightening steps, so we can see how your hair actually reacts before you commit to a full appointment.
Do I need a patch test?
A patch test and hair assessment may be required before colour services. If one is needed, we explain the next step before the colour service.
Is the hair-check the same appointment as my service?
No. The hair-check is a shorter, separate appointment. If you decide to go ahead and we have the time free, we can often start the same day. If not, we book it for a date that gives your hair the time it needs.
